Check out our latest blog post on the most popular in-demand technologies you need to know.<\/p><p>Which technologies are popular with Kubernetes jobs?<\/p><p>Of the popular ones, which ones should you really invest your time in learning?<\/p><p>The best way to get answers to the above questions (and perhaps more) is with solid data.<\/p><p>Recently, <a href=\"https:\/\/kube.careers\/?ref=devopscube.com\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kube Careers <\/a>released their <em><strong>Kubernetes job market trends report<\/strong><\/em> for 2022, and here&#8217;s what it says about popular technologies mentioned in Kubernetes job descriptions.<\/p><p><strong>Before we go ahead<\/strong>, here are a few points to keep in mind with this dataset:<\/p><p>Kube Careers is a Kubernetes job board that only publishes jobs which:<\/p><ol><li>Have Kubernetes as a requirement and not a <em>nice to have<\/em>, or a <em>plus<\/em>.<\/li><li>Have a clear salary range (this is mandatory).<\/li><li>Are not sourced from recruitment agencies.<\/li><\/ol><p>Please keep the above points in mind as we look into the data.<\/p><p>On we go!<\/p><h2 id=\"which-technologies-other-than-kubernetes-are-popular-for-kubernetes-jobs-\">Which technologies (other than Kubernetes) are popular for Kubernetes jobs.<\/h2><p>What unfolds is interesting to say the least!<\/p><figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.ghost.io\/c\/5f\/2f\/5f2f4d20-2abf-4534-8d40-7aa233aedd43\/content\/images\/2025\/03\/image-11-34.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt loading=\"lazy\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/storage.ghost.io\/c\/5f\/2f\/5f2f4d20-2abf-4534-8d40-7aa233aedd43\/content\/images\/size\/w600\/2025\/03\/image-11-34.png 600w, https:\/\/storage.ghost.io\/c\/5f\/2f\/5f2f4d20-2abf-4534-8d40-7aa233aedd43\/content\/images\/2025\/03\/image-11-34.png 620w\"><\/figure><h2 id=\"the-most-popular-choices-of-technology-among-kubernetes-engineers-are-\">The most popular choices of technology among Kubernetes engineers are:<\/h2><p>Programming languages: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/devopscube.com\/python-for-devops\/\">Python<\/a>, Go<\/strong> and <strong>Java<\/strong>.<\/p><ol><li>What&#8217;s interesting here is there were 737 tags for <a href=\"https:\/\/devopscube.com\/best-programming-languages-list\/\">programming languages<\/a> from 373 job descriptions &#8211; meaning <em><strong>job descriptions mentioned more than one programming language requirement.<\/strong><\/em><\/li><li>Of the 737 tags for programming languages,<\/li><li>160 (more than 21%) of these were for <em><strong>Python<\/strong><\/em>,<\/li><li>120 (16%) were for Golang<\/li><li>and 96 (13%) were for Java.<\/li><li>If you want to master one programming language for your next Kubernetes job, choose <em><strong>Python.<\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ol><p>Cloud platforms: <strong>AWS, GCP<\/strong> and <strong>Azure<\/strong> (in that order).<\/p><ol><li>Of the job descriptions that mentioned their <a href=\"https:\/\/devopscube.com\/infrastructure-as-code-configuration-management\/\">infrastructure<\/a> location, more than 40% of these cited AWS as their preferred infrastructure location.<\/li><li>It was followed by GCP and Azure in the second and third place with 22% and 21% representation respectively.<\/li><li><em><strong>AWS<\/strong><\/em> has been the preferred infrastructure location in almost all of Kube Careers&#8217; quarterly reports.<\/li><\/ol><p>Infrastructure as Code: <strong>Terraform<\/strong>.<\/p><ol><li>Terraform was mentioned as a requirement in 159 (37%) job descriptions!<\/li><li>Database management: <strong>PostgreSQL<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Of the 373 job descriptions, 56 (more than 15%) of these mentioned a requirement for <em>PostgreSQL<\/em> experience.<\/li><\/ol><p>CI\/CD: <strong>Jenkins<\/strong>.<\/p><!--kg-card-begin: html--><ol class=\"is-style-cnvs-list-styled\">\n<li>Experience with Continuos Integration\/Continuos Deployement tools is quite popular among Kubernetes jobs with more than 55% of the descriptions stating it as a requirement.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Of the job descriptions that specified a CI\/CD tool,&nbsp;<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/devopscube.com\/jenkins-2-tutorials-getting-started-guide\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"647\">Jenkins<\/a><\/strong><\/em>&nbsp;was the most popular specific tool requirement with 21% representation.<\/li>\n\n\n<li>The other mentions were\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gitlab (22%)<\/li>\n\n\n<li>Azure DevOps (7%)<\/li>\n\n\n<li>GitHub Actions (6%)<\/li>\n\n\n<li>CircleCI (6%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol><!--kg-card-end: html--><p>Configuration management: <strong>Ansible<\/strong>.<\/p><ol><li>Firstly, more than 56% jobs listed on Kube Careers in 2022 mentioned a need for a configuration manangment tool experience.<\/li><li>Also, there were 448 mentions of <a href=\"https:\/\/devopscube.com\/devops-tools-for-infrastructure-automation\/\">configuration management tools<\/a> in 373 job descriptions &#8211; meaning job descriptions mentioned more than one configuration management tool.<\/li><li>Ansible was mentioned as a requirement in 95 (more than 22%) of these job descriptions.<\/li><\/ol><p>Containers: <strong>Docker<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Operating systems: <strong>Linux<\/strong>.<\/p><p><em><strong>What&#8217;s interesting to see is that if you are well versed in AWS, CI\/CD, and Python, you are eligible for more than 60% of the Kubernetes jobs!<\/strong><\/em><\/p><h2 id=\"which-were-the-popular-technologies-in-2021\">Which were the popular technologies in 2021?<\/h2><p>If we take Kube Careers&#8217; 2021 job trends report as a reference, here&#8217;s what a normalised view of the data between the consecutive years looks like:<\/p><figure class=\"kg-card kg-image-card\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.ghost.io\/c\/5f\/2f\/5f2f4d20-2abf-4534-8d40-7aa233aedd43\/content\/images\/2025\/03\/image-12-29.png\" class=\"kg-image\" alt loading=\"lazy\" width=\"610\" height=\"436\" srcset=\"https:\/\/storage.ghost.io\/c\/5f\/2f\/5f2f4d20-2abf-4534-8d40-7aa233aedd43\/content\/images\/size\/w600\/2025\/03\/image-12-29.png 600w, https:\/\/storage.ghost.io\/c\/5f\/2f\/5f2f4d20-2abf-4534-8d40-7aa233aedd43\/content\/images\/2025\/03\/image-12-29.png 610w\"><\/figure><h4 id=\"so-what-has-changed\">So what has changed?<\/h4><p><em><strong>Not much.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p>Unless you look for the differences you may not find them.<\/p><p>Here are the observations from the year-on-year comparison:<\/p><ol><li>The mentions for experience in Continuos Integrations\/Continuos Deployement (CI\/CD) has increased by 14% year-on-year.<\/li><li>Python and Golang have lost their popularity by almost 8% while <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/devopscube.com\/build-java-application-using-maven\/\">Java<\/a><\/strong> has gained in popularity by 8% year-on-year.<\/li><li>Every other technology seems to have stayed almost constant year-on-year.<\/li><\/ol><h2 id=\"conclusion\">Conclusion<\/h2><p>Hope you got a glimpse into the Kubernetes job market, and what the companies are actually looking for.<\/p><p>Did you find the article useful?
