Learn how to set up a WordPress website on Cloudways in just 9 minutes. This easy step-by-step guide is perfect for beginners looking for a fast and hassle-free setup.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been using WordPress for over a decade and have always self-hosted my websites.<\/p>\n

Now, I\u2019m moving everything to Cloudways managed hosting to get rid of the server maintenance overhead and focus more on growing the business.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve documented every step of the process to make it easier for you.<\/p>\n

Let’s get started.<\/p>\n

Choose a Plan<\/h2>\n

Go to pricing page<\/a> and choose a required plan.<\/p>\n

Choosing a plan depends on your website traffic and specific needs.<\/p>\n

For example, the micro plan can host two WordPress websites and can serve ~10000 visitors per day with CDN + Caching.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m choosing the Flexible hosting option<\/strong> with DigitalOcean cloud<\/a> and the Basic Micro plan, as I plan to host my company website and a tech blog that usually doesn\u2019t receive heavy traffic.<\/p>\n

Signup With Promo Code<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Next, you need to signup for the Cloudways account with a promo code to save on hosting plans. A good thing is that if you are getting started, you don’t need to use a credit card.<\/p>\n

In the signup page, ensure to choose “I have a promo code<\/strong><\/b>” option and use code DEVOPS30<\/strong><\/b> to get 30% discount as show in the image below. Also look at cloudways promo codes<\/a> page to get the latest offers.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Verify Your Account<\/h2>\n

Usually, account verification is immediate.<\/p>\n

In some cases, due to fraud prevention and security protocols, you may be asked to verify your account using your details.<\/p>\n

After submitting the details, if verification doesn’t happen right away, you can email the Cloudways verification team at av@cloudways.com<\/a> or verify@cloudways.com<\/a> for faster account activation.<\/p>\n

Once you have a verified account, move on to the next step.<\/p>\n

Add WordPress Application<\/h2>\n

Now, if you have an account, you will get the option to add the application as shown below. Click the “Add Applicatio<\/strong>n” option to get started.<\/p>\n

On the next page, fill up the server details as shown below. <\/p>\n

You can choose the backend cloud you want to use. I am choosing,<\/p>\n

  1. DigitalOcean server (I have been using DigitalOcean for a really long time for many other use cases)<\/li>\n
  2. Basic Server Type <\/li>\n
  3. 2GB RAM<\/li>\n
  4. Location – Bangalore (Because the business is in India)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It costs approximately $28 per mont<\/strong>h.<\/p>\n

    Once you have filled in all the details, click Launch now to launch the server.<\/p>\n

    It takes approximately ~7 minutes<\/strong> for the server to be configured.<\/p>\n

    So, the server is now added.<\/p>\n

    Now go to the Application<\/strong> and click on the Crunchops.<\/p>\n

    In the applications tab, you will get all the access details to the Cloudways hosting.<\/p>\n

    Also, you will get staging management, Monitoring<\/a>, application security, your website domain management, SSL certificate<\/a>, backup & restore, deployment via GIT and many other options as shown below.<\/p>\n

    If you are self-hosting WordPress<\/a>, you would have to pay or setup custom solutions for all these functionalities. In Cloudways it all comes bundled with the managed hosting subscription.<\/p>\n

    Logging in to WordPress Admin<\/h2>\n

    To view your WordPress admin panel, click the link under Admin Panel <\/strong>url under Access details. It is a temporary DN<\/strong>S created by Cloudways so that you can setup your website before you map your main DNS to Cloudways.<\/p>\n

    That’s it. You have now setup your WordPress website on Cloudways.<\/p>\n

    Upgrading from Cloudways Trial to Full Account<\/h2>\n

    If you like the Cloudways service, you can upgrade your account to continue using the server and the deployed applications.<\/p>\n

    If you forget to upgrade within three days, your server will be deleted. However, once you upgrade your account, you’ll have the option to restore the same server<\/strong> with all the application settings intact.<\/p>\n

    I forgot to upgrade on time, so I had to restore the server after upgrading my account. The restore process took around 8\u201310 minutes. The image below shows my server recovery after the upgrade.<\/p>\n

    Next Steps<\/h2>\n

    Here are the next steps I\u2019ll be taking to complete my WordPress website setup on Cloudways<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    1. Set up caching for faster page loads<\/li>\n
    2. Configure CDN using Cloudflare<\/li>\n
    3. Apply a clean and responsive website theme<\/li>\n
    4. Install all essential WordPress plugins<\/li>\n
    5. Set up monitoring (RAM, CPU usage, uptime, etc.)<\/li>\n
    6. Configure email delivery (SMTP or transactional email service)<\/li>\n
    7. Perform speed and performance testing across all pages<\/li>\n
    8. Map the main domain to the Cloudways application<\/li>\n
    9. Set up a free SSL certificate using Let\u2019s Encrypt<\/li>\n
    10. Change the default WordPress login URL to prevent brute-force attacks<\/li>\n
    11. Review and configure all key SEO settings<\/li>\n
    12. Enable automatic backups (daily or hourly)<\/li>\n
    13. Test manual backup and restore to prepare for emergencies<\/li>\n
    14. Create a staging environment for safe testing and updates<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
